[His shoulders pin inward again.] ...so just. Can we enjoy what time we have?

[A stressed frown forms onto Goro's face, brows knitting together and lips pulling into a tight line.]

That's greedy. [Though, that's pretty rich coming from him. Considering just how selfish he is being here as well.] You know who I am, Akira. I can't just sit still and wait what happens. I need to uncover the truth and take down the power ruling over us. That is my rebellion.

But... [Goro pauses, trying to find how to put his words.] I want that power for us. So that we can control and decide our fates here. Whether to stay or leave.

[chemex]

[Akira just smiles faintly, nodding.]

Scootch over, Rebellion McGee. [He's going to sit with you whether you make room for him or not, Akechi.]

[murderingjustice]

Hey--! Watch it, you still have Shoyu. [And fair enough! When Akira moves to with him she lets out a deep meow and jumps off his shoulder, landing gracefully right on the backrest of the chair.

And yeah, since it is an arm chair Akira you're going to deal with sitting partially on Goro's lap.]

[Just as keikaku. He swings his legs over Goro's leaning so he's half on Goro and half actually sitting in the chair properly.] She's a cat, she knows what she's doing.

[He finds one of Goro's hands, twines their fingers.] Anyway we're both jerks, but you're my jerk, and I love you. We really ought to work on our communication.

[murderingjustice]

[Goro ends up pushing the book on his lap off to the floor to make room for Akira, one arm sliding behind to his back to support the other.]

You're jerk. And an idiot. [he scoff softly and rolls his eyes at him as a protest. but still, he ends up resting his head against Akira's shoulder.]

We're already too involved with this world. [They're no longer strangers. Not with how they've integrated themselves to Aldrip and it's community. Having jobs, a place to call a home. A pet. ]

Guilty, and guilty. [He sets his head against Goro's in turn.]

...would have been kind of hard to not be.

I tried not to. [Not to get involved. To stay as an outsider as long as possible. At first it had came naturally, just like his distance to life in general. But then came Akira and these stupid feelings.]

We've changed here.

I don't think it's been too detrimental.

[Now it's his turn to rub his thumb into Goro's knuckles in idle patterns.] ...'s not been all bad, right?

[Closing his eyes, Goro uses his other arm to bring Akira further up on his lap.]

Hard to say. I know I should try harder. [To change, he means. To be better, for Akira and his own sake.] But I'm not sure there is anything else.

[He folds himself to be impressively small and coil further into Goro's grip.] We both should. [Try harder, that is.]

[He stays quiet at that for a bit. They're hardly perfect people, far from it. Two assholes working together and trying to navigate through this life and each other, stumbling ever so often in different roadblocks set by their miscommunication. But outside of that? No, Goro doesn't think Akira needs to change. Not really. He's all he's wanted just the way he is.]

...I suppose you could practice your sushi skills even more. Some of the cuts were uneven.

[chemex]

[He barks a startled laugh at that, and Shoyu swats his hair for the sound, but he snuggles down against Goro anyway.] I'll practice, just for you.

[They haven't actually exchanged their gifts, but it's fine.]

[Don't worry. He hasn't forgotten about the tiny gift box sitting on the table. He actually went through some trouble acquiring the watch. But now he wants to hold Akira a little longer, squeezing lightly on his hand.]

Do you still want to take that bath?

[Glad they're on the same page. Akira tilts his head to look up at him, chuckling sheepishly.] It was mostly an excuse to escape because I was overwhelmed, but... If you wanna come with me I wouldn't say no.

[murderingjustice]

I'd prefer if you didn't use excuses. [because they dampen Goro's mood and feed to his insecurity. But that's fine now. Crisis averted. ]

I'll bathe with you. I can that way give you the first part of your present. [Sex. He means sex, And if that didn't come across clear Goro leans into kiss the corner of his mouth.] After that we can enjoy the cake Kotone made for us.

It was run or start crying in confused overwhelm, I figured you would prefer I escape.

[He's not especially surprised by sex being part of the gift, but he blinks anyway and chuckles, nodding.] Yeah? I wasn't aware this was a multi-stage gifting process. [A beat.] Kotone made us cake?

Were you always this much of a crybaby? [Goro hadn't picked Akira to be one back in Tokyo. Sentimental bleeding heart, yes. But he had always seemed to keep himself intact. Guess the lack of pressure to save the world does affect them both differently.

Also, you know he'd devour you right here and now, mister. But their new daughter is perching above them and Goro is not going to get frisky in front of her.] I did have a long night planned for us.

And yes. I asked her to. She made sure I helped but don't worry. I merely measured the ingredients.

[He slouches, vaguely ashamed.] ...not around anyone else, no. [It means he trusts you, Goro, even if it definitely also means he's just wholeass not in control of his emotions around you. He settles a bit, ears dusting pink at the notion of a planned "long night".]

[He sits back up at the immediate dismissal of cooking, grinning.] You could do baking, I'm sure. It's a lot more precise and involves following directions, which is why I pretty genuinely suck at it.

...I don't mind it. [Despite not really being fan of or knowing how to handle such messy feelings it doesn't mean he wants to Akira hold back. He's learned to appreciate the vulnerability of the others honesty, making him want to preserve this little bubble they've built even more.]

Oh? Would you be willing to be my guinea pig and face the death once more in my hands? [He chuckles, fingers letting go of Akira's hand to find his wrist, carefully sliding under to the cuff of his shirt sleeve.] I don't care for sweets, but I imagined tonight is a special occasion. It is custom to eat a cake in Christmas, after all.

[Doubt.]

[He chuckles again, a low rumbling sound in his chest and shakes his head, shrugging.] Food poisoning is a horrible way to go, I'd make such a mess. [A fonder, softer smile, and he cranes his neck to nuzzle up under Goro's jaw.] I have to want sweets. [That might be a thinly-veiled pass at Goro.]

[Goro can't help but laugh at that comment, an amused grin spreading on his lips, anxiety slowly dissolving from his body language. He turns his head down so that their foreheads bonk together gently. ]

In that case we should work up to your appetite. [And! Right on cue, the record playing in the background changes into a new song, one that has more beat to it. Goro pats Akira's legs, ushering him to move.]

Get up. I want to dance with you.

[chemex]

[He rumbles a pleased, purring little laugh of sound, and obliges when Goro pats his legs, disengaging from him to stand. The suggestion to dance startles him, but he smiles anyway.] I'm not a very good dancer. [Unless he's dreaming.]

That's why all you need to do is follow my lead. [Goro laughs an answer and stands up. He moves away from the arm chair so that he's standing in the middle of their living room.

Then with a smile he extends his hand out to Akira, inviting him to take. A real prince charming move, really.]

May I?

[He puffs one cheek out in a pout, but takes his hand anyway.]

You know I can't say no to you.
